I’m back!

I know, it’s been a while since I last posted. October 2023 to be precise! What happened? Well, I’m glad you asked. Mainly it was because the security my work puts on my laptop was so tight that I couldn’t get in to my website! It wasn’t until yesterday that I got around to doing something about it.

So what have I been up to? Quite a lot, and I’ll tell you about it in more detail over the coming months, but in a nutshell:

  • Sep/Oct 23 – I attended Conflux (a speculative fiction conference) in Canberra
  • Oct 23 – I commissioned a new cover for my book Golden City – so now all 4 books have the same look (and are actually the same size!!)
  • Nov 23 – had a book stall at my church’s annual Christmas Markets. I discovered some cool marketing tips!
  • Dec 23 – I got my new covers for Golden City
  • Feb 24 – received my 3rd every Amazon Royalty (and had an infuriating conversation with a chat bot)
  • Feb 24 – stood down as President of Tauranga Writers (after 4.5 years of service)
  • Feb 24 – attended my friend Lee Murray‘s presentation of the NZ Prime Minister’s Awards for Literary Achievement (Fiction)
  • Feb 24 – was on selection panel for NZSA Mentorship – 96 applications!
  • Mar 24 – wrote a book review for a SpecFicNZ member
  • Mar 24 – was commissioned to do a complete Manuscript Assessment

A fantasy fan since being read 'The Hobbit' by her father at the fireside at the age of six, S R Manssen has been an avid bookworm her entire life. She is the multi-award nominated author of The Realmshift Trilogy – a YA fantasy fiction trilogy comprising four books (I know!). Sharon had a multi-cultural upbringing, attending high school in Belgium (in Flemish) and working 9 years in Bangkok, Thailand. It was there she realised she had a story inside her which she then proceeded to write over the next ten years, squeezing writing in between raising a family and working full time as a professional engineer. Her books have variously been finalists in the Tom Fitzgibbon Award, the SJV Awards and the Caleb Awards. She served as the President of Tauranga Writers for nearly 5 years and has been the President of SpecFicNZ since 2022. She is a StartWrite Manuscript assessor and Youth Mentor with NZSA.
